Saline or Silicone Breast Implants
Saline or silicone is just a couple of the choices a person has to make when they are thinking about getting breast implants. While both types of these implants are now FDA approved a person should always consult with their surgeon about the benefits and the risks of the entire breast surgery process.
Silicone breast implants are a rubber filled shell with a silicone type gel inside of them. They are made to feel the closest to what a normal human breast feels like. These implants come in smooth or textured surface, shape, volume and thickness.
There are some down sides to choosing silicone for your breast augmentation surgery. One is that they can rupture. Some times the leaking can go unnoticed for the entire lifetime of the implant, other times there is a noticeable deflation to the breast that the leaking implant is located in. When a rupture is detected a patient can choose weather to discard the implants totally or have a new one put in its place.
Saline breast implants are a rubber shell filled with a saline solution. There are adjustable saline implants that are sealed by the cosmetic plastic surgeon after the insertion of the saline to the desired fullness. These implants can be adjusted periodically by the surgeon until the patient is happy with the size of them. This type of breast implant tends to one of the more popular choices.
The downside of opting for saline breast implants is the possibility of rupturing. If the implant ruptures or leaks the breast will be deflated and it is usually noticeable. The person’s body will absorb the saline solution and is not harmed when doing so. Just like silicone implants, if one of the implants ruptures, it will need to be either replaced or totally removed from the breast.
